Abigail Thomas has over 12 years’ experience within the digital media environment in Australia and the UK.

Abigail is currently Head of Strategic Development in the ABC’s Innovation Division. Her team creates innovative digital projects using the latest online technologies such as mobile, tablets, 3D maps, Internet television, widgets and social media. Recent highlights include ABC iView, ABC Mobile, iphone and iPad applications and Gallipoli: The First Day.

Abigail has had various roles at the ABC including project managing the development of ABC2, the ABC’s digital multichannel.

Prior to this, Abigail worked in the UK for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport as Head of Commercial and Digital Broadcasting. At a time when digital TV had just been launched in the UK, she oversaw government policy on the development, regulation and roll-out of digital television and radio. She was also awarded a visiting research fellowship by the UK Government, researching digital TV developments in a number of countries (UK, Germany, US, Australia, New Zealand and Japan).

Abigail was appointed to the Board of Object, Australian Centre for Craft and Design in February 2009. She also led the bid for Sydney to become a UNESCO City of Film, announced in Jan 2010.
